The property is located in the northwest of the State of Maranhão. Access to it via BR 222.
Physical Aspects:
Geology
Represented by Itapecuru Formation, consists of fine sandstones, siltstones and mudstones, shales with intercalation silt.
Relief
There area three types of relief: plan that corresponds to approximately 30% of the area, mainly situated on the river bank and / or plateaus and plains, gently rolling hills that corresponds to approximately 35% of the area and wavy / curly strongly dissected hills corresponds to approximately 35% of the area. This estimate was based on field observations and satellite images of the area.
Climate
The area a climate, according to Koppen’s classification is of type AW, equatorial climate characterized by evidence of an average temperature above 18 ° C and a rainfall set in dry and rainy seasons. The average annual rainfall varies from 1,600 mm to 2,200 mm. The rainy season lasts from December to May, the months of February, March and April showing the greatest amount of precipitation and the months of August, September and October presenting the driest. The water balance, coupled with the nature of the soils, indicating favorable conditions for development of livestock and food crops irrigated and dry land (soy, rice, cassava, beans, sugar cane and corn), irrigated horticulture and forestry.
Soils
According to the Survey Exploratory / Recognition of Soils of the State of Maranhão, EMBRAPA / SNLCS / SUDENE, 1986 and field observations, there are four associations in the area of land namely:
a) Yellow Latosol Alico, moderate clayey phase subperenifolia rainforest, flat terrain and gentle undulating
b) Association of Red-Yellow Podzolic phase medium texture and wavy wavy soft relief with Pozole Yellow Plinthic not Plinthic, medium texture and loamy / clayey, rocky, non-stony phase, both Tb and dystrophic alic A moderate phase subperenifolia forest.
c) Association clayey Yellow Latosol flat terrain and gentle wavy + TB Podzolic Red Yellow medium texture clay and heavy clay phase wavy relief and very wavy + Yellow Latosol clay clayey and stony phase is not the strong wavy wavy relief, all alic, moderate phase subperenifólia forest.
d) Association of Humic Gley and Alluvial soils are poorly developed soils, which are associated with intense presence of water in the soil profile and are popularly known as land of meadows and are still located in the riverbank.
Vegetation
The original vegetation of the area was formed overwhelmingly by subperenifólia rainforest, dense, with species of high load, with the extract than around 30 meters tall, with straight trunks, as part of the floristic composition of native species great commercial value as the pau de arco, maçaranduba, jatoba, angelim, fustic, andiroba Maracatiara, laurel, cedar, sucupira, etc.. The original vegetation cover currently only 568.62 ha. The rest of the vegetation cover consists of natural vegetation modified by human action 4.785.38 ha, ha 4030.00 artificial pasture, bare soil by human activities and forest 99.89 ha 212.74 ha of permanent preservation, as thematic map based on image of Landsat-TM, orbit / point 222/063, 01.08.2000 passage.
Hydrography
Comprised of several intermittent streams course (run only during the rainy season), the permanent rivers (2), some ponds and wells cacimbão type, 3 dams, Dam 2 and 1 artesian wells. The river has the potential to provide water for irrigation.
Locational Aspects and Infrastructure
Access Roads
By road in large part on the asphalt.

Transportation

METHODS AND EVALUATION CRITERIA
